Geopsy.com website has been created in December 2004 by Nicolas BOSC, clinical psychologist, doctor of psychology from the University of Paris VIII.
The idea for this website arrived during a collaborative work undertaken in Hanoi (Vietnam) where, through a doctoral research, the objective was to participate in the initiation and development of psychological counseling centers for children and young adults in Vietnam.
Through this work, many questions related to the practice of transcultural psychology appeared and the opening of this site was then designed to gather knowledge and combining clinical psychology and intercultural sharing different experiences of practicing clinicians with cultural issues and until inaccessible.
Since its creation, this site has tried to stay opened to all approaches (psychoanalysis, cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, family ...) and was especially interested in traditional practices (supernatural beliefs, shamanism...).
Without financial profit, the site has no advertising or commercial partnership, and does not request a membership system.
Today, Geopsy gets opened to other languages and wish to contact clinicians from different countries, especially those working in countries where psychology and mental health in general are still poorly developed. For this purpose, specialized dictionaries in psychology have been made and put online (French-English-Vietnamese) and translation of documents reference is made gradually.
Also, to enrich the research and thinking about transcultural psychology, a scientific journal, the Geopsy Intercultural Journal was launched in January 2010 with a reading committee bringing together a dozen clinicians of different nationalities, all university graduates in mental health (psychology, psychiatry ...) and with significant experience in intercultural practice.
This site brings together professionals and encourages entirely voluntary personal contributions (transfers of documents, published articles, translations of work ...). If you also want to participate in enriching this site, please contact us.
